History of the CompanyIn 1987, Dr. Melvyn Greenstein, having a deep concern for his patients and the rising costs of quality dental care, developed a concept for a newly affordable dental program for the Communications Workers of America (“CWA”), hence the beginning of Direct Dental Services (“DDS”). The concept developed into reality when Dr Greenstein asked fellow dentists in Florida to accept insurance payments as payment in full for dental services rendered to CWA union members. CWA District 3 union has consulted with DDS at contract negotiations in Atlanta and advises the union negotiating team with reference to benefits for all of the union members who use the dental plan. This included negotiations with the companies that employ CWA members, namely Bell South, AT&T and Lucent Technologies. The network rapidly expanded throughout Florida in 1988. The word of the benefits afforded members by CWA from the DDS Dental Network spread and started to gain popularity with unions in other states. In 1992, DDS signed contracts to provide a Dental Network with locations in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. It was at this point, Dr. George D. Green was approached and joined the Dental Network. In 1993, DDS, was invited to give a presentation at the Annual District 3 meeting in Orlando, and, as a result of that presentation, the Dental Network expanded further into Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee and Kentucky. In 1997 a presentation was made at the District 6 meeting in Houston and Southwestern Bell states of Missouri, Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas became a part of the Dental Network, with Minnesota following later that year. The Dental Network was growing at astounding speed therfore Dr. Greenstein started to look for a partner to help with the growing company business. Who better to approach than one of the most successful dentists in the growing network, Dr. George D. Green. In August 2000, George D. Green, D.D.S., P.A., purchased 50% of all of the outstanding shares of Direct Dental Services, Inc. The following three years, under the direction of the new partner, the Dental Network grew even further, expanding into California and Nevada. Union Dental Corp., was incorporated in the State of Florida by Dr. George D. Green, as President and Chief Executive Officer on October 14, 2003 for the specific purpose of consolidating his personal dental practice and the businesses of Direct Dental Services. In December, Dr. Greenstein retired and sold his 50% of DDS to Dr. Green, who now operates the company under the name Union Dental Corp. to better reflect the business of the corporation. Dr. Green has now embarked on an extensive marketing campaign to make the benefits of the Dental Network known to more union members. As an integral part of that campaign he had the UDC website designed where patients could select a dentist close to home or work and accommodate their schedule. Through the website, patients now have greater access to specialists, can locate a dentists closer to them, find out about a doctor and his qualifications, new technologies implemented by the doctor at his office and get to know his staff, all prior to their first appointment. |
